The Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE) is one of the UK’s leading youth achievement programmes, offering young people the opportunity to challenge themselves, develop new skills, and gain experiences that will benefit them throughout their lives.
Open to anyone aged 14–24, the DofE Award is made up of three progressive levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Participants work towards an Award by completing a series of personal challenges and activities over a set period of time.
The DofE is not a competition, and it is not about being the best or finishing first. Instead, it encourages young people to set personal goals, step outside their comfort zones, and achieve something meaningful to them. Along the way, participants develop determination, resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills while enjoying new experiences and building lasting friendships.
Taking part in the DofE Award is an excellent way to boost confidence, improve wellbeing, and gain valuable life skills. The programme helps young people become more independent, resourceful, and prepared for future education and employment. Universities and employers highly regard the Award, recognising the commitment, initiative, and perseverance required to achieve it.
